Iβm writing this blog post while on vacation in Mexico with my wife and my parents-in-law.
Over the last days, weβve walked through the stones of Chichen Itza, visited the pyramids in Coba, and admired the ocean-facing ruins of Tulum.
Standing in front of these ancient masterpieces, one thought kept hitting me.
The Maya civilization built something so powerful that it outlived their money, their leaders, even their existence as a culture.
What they left behind is legacy.
And thatβs exactly what every entrepreneur in their 20s should be thinking about.
Because wealth comes and goes.
But legacy shapes how the world remembers you.

I. The Trap of Chasing Only Short-Term Wealth
When youβre young and ambitious, money feels like the main prize.
You work crazy hours.
You hustle hard.
You take pride in stacking cash.
And donβt get me wrong.
Wealth matters.
It gives you freedom.
It opens doors.
But hereβs the danger.
If your only focus is on money, you risk burning out, making reckless choices, or building something that vanishes once you stop working.
How many businesses have you seen explode with fast growth, only to collapse within a few years?
They didnβt build for the future.
They built only for the moment.
The Maya remind us that lasting impact comes from long-term vision.
II. What the Maya Teach Us About Vision
The Maya didnβt just build cities.
They built systems.
Chichen Itza wasnβt just a pyramid. It was an astronomical calendar carved into stone. It still tracks the movement of the sun.
Coba wasnβt just a city. It was connected by miles of raised roads, showing they thought about connectivity, trade, and communication.
Tulum wasnβt just pretty ruins on a cliff. It was a fortified seaport, a strategy to control commerce and culture.
They built for generations, not for the weekend.
And thatβs the lesson.
If youβre a 20-something entrepreneur, donβt just build for todayβs profit.
Build a system that grows even when you step away.
Thatβs the beginning of legacy.
III. Legacy vs. Wealth: The Key Difference
Wealth is a number. Legacy is a story.
Money can be spent. Legacy is remembered.
Wealth is stored in a bank. Legacy is stored in peopleβs hearts.
The Mayaβs gold, trade routes, and riches are gone.
But their pyramids, art, and knowledge remain.
Ask yourself.
What are you building right now?
Something that vanishes with your last paycheck?
Or something that will live on in your customers, your community, your family?
Thatβs the millionaire mindset shift you need to make today.
IV. How to Start Building Your Legacy Now
I know what youβre thinking. βBut Iβm just starting out. How do I even think about legacy when Iβm trying to survive?β
Hereβs the good news.
Legacy doesnβt start when youβre rich.
It starts with the choices you make daily.
Here are 5 ways you can start right now:
Think Long-Term: Donβt only focus on fast money. Ask, βHow will this business, this product, this idea matter 10 years from now?β
Build Systems, Not Jobs: Create processes that work without you. Thatβs how you free yourself and scale.
Impact People: Focus on creating value that transforms lives. Products fade. Memories of how you helped last forever.
Leave Your Mark: Document your journey. Share your lessons. Teach others. Every post, book, or video you make adds to your legacy.
Stay True to Your Values: The Maya culture revolved around rituals and principles. Likewise, your values must be your compass.
Legacy is built brick by brick.
Just like the pyramids.
V. My Personal Reflection from the Ruins
Walking through Coba, I felt something humbling.
Thousands of years ago, people climbed those same stone steps, believing in something bigger than themselves.
They didnβt know me.
They didnβt know you.
But their work still impacts us today.
Thatβs when it hit me.
Maybe the true measure of success is not how much you earn this year.
Maybe itβs how much you leave behind for those who come after you.
Legacy is not about being remembered by millions.
Itβs about being remembered by the right people.
Your family.
Your team.
Your community.
Thatβs the real win.
VI. Free Actionable Tip
Hereβs one small action you can take this week.

βIf my business disappeared tomorrow, what would people still remember about me?β
Then answer it honestly.
