TMS #010: Break Through Your Inner Limiting Beliefs

Beliefs are like an invisible force

You can’t... You’re not...

Negative limiting beliefs are like an invisible force that makes your life difficult.

There is another way.

I’ll show you how to break through your inner belief patterns.

Hi therešŸ‘‹.

Beliefs are a bit like little habits you have about yourself:

They go unnoticed for a long time. You don’t question what you do and classify it as normality.

Despite their invisibility, beliefs are still powerful: they influence what you think, how you feel, and ultimately how you decide: Because they are deeply rooted assumptions in your psyche that you have about yourself and life. And which you think are true.

They develop from personal experiences and sayings you’ve heard throughout your life: In childhood from your parents and caregivers or in adulthood from friends, partners, or superiors. These mediated images can influence your perception and thus grow into fixed belief patterns that play out automatically without you consciously noticing.

Beliefs Stop Or Motivate You

There are both positive and negative beliefs:

The former can really inspire you and help you live the life you want. A belief like ā€œI am good the way I amā€ gives you courage. It puts you and what you are capable of in a good light. More neutral phrases like ā€œLife has ups and downs and that’s okayā€ are also attributed to positive beliefs.

Negative beliefs such as ā€œI can’t do anythingā€ or ā€œI’m not worth itā€ create a negative self-image of yourself. This makes you feel small and slows us down internally.

Be it in terms of your self-esteem or your relationships: We all carry different beliefs within us - both positive and negative. But when negative beliefs predominate, they can quite limit your quality of life and keep you from being authentic.

Trained limiting beliefs and negative thought patterns can have a lot of power over you. But here comes an important message:

You can actively work on your beliefs, especially if they block you.

Here are 5 steps to help you do that:

Change your limiting beliefs.

1. Become Aware Of Your Inner Beliefs

By becoming aware of your inner beliefs, you regain power. It helps when you realize that they are just thoughts or a voice in your head. It can be quite loud because it has settled in your mind as a long-established pattern - but it is not you, it is not reality.

So as a first step, go within yourself and get to know your beliefs: Do you have assumptions about yourself and life in general, or beliefs that keep coming up? It’s worth pausing and listening within, especially in situations that are challenging for you: What assumptions are you making here, perhaps even over and over again?

Also, think back to moments when things were not going so well for you: When do these negative thoughts and feelings occur, and do you associate them with a memory from the past? Do signal words pop up in your head? Beliefs often include generalizing or absolute statements like always, never, must, no one, etc.

2. Reality Check: How True Is Your Belief?

Once you’ve become a little more aware of your beliefs, take a closer look at them: How much truth is there in them? Ask yourself why you believe in them. Are there past experiences that explain why you think that way about yourself?

Perhaps they matched your past challenges or experiences. Some negative beliefs may also have had a positive purpose: for example, to protect you from disappointment or pain. However, you often evolve while still holding the same beliefs - and these can limit you.

Ask yourself now: do these assumptions still correspond to your life today? Consciously take time to do this fact check and stay curious about what shows up for you. If you have difficulty finding enough ā€œevidenceā€ for your inner beliefs, you can take this as an encouragement to disprove the belief.

3. Change Your Belief System To Positivity

Are your old thought patterns shaking? Now you have the power to let them go. What makes this possible is something called neuroplasticity: your brain’s lifelong ability to change with new impressions and experiences. It’s quite a superpower, allowing you to turn negative beliefs into positive affirmations.

You can think of these as small, encouraging beliefs that help you restructure your perceptions and build a positive self-image to find stability within yourself. The point is not to instill ā€œpositive thinkingā€ or even an unrealistic image such as ā€œI can do anything!ā€. Rather, they support us in speaking to ourselves in a more loving way.

When creating your affirmation, it is important that it matches your values and that you can identify well with it. Only then can you believe it and let it accompany you in the process of letting go. It must therefore be positive, but also realistic and have a connection to the present. An example of how you can move from a negative belief to a positive affirmation:

I have to be perfect! -> I am enough!

I won’t make it anyway! -> I trust myself!

First the work, then the pleasure! -> I am allowed to indulge myself!

4. Allow Yourself To Have New Experiences

You’ve come a long way so far! Now it’s time to get out of your head and get active: Because as important as it is to have found your positive affirmation for yourself, it is also important to practice it in a very practical way on the action level. Only then can it bring about a long-term, sustainable change in your behavior.

Get ready to go out and have new experiences. What experiences do you need in your everyday life that disprove your old beliefs? What experiences can support you in really living your positive affirmations and anchoring them in your actions?

To do this, you can make agreements with yourself or make small resolutions that draw you out of your comfort zone. What these are is just as individual as your affirmation. Give yourself the freedom to face new situations and open yourself up to new experiences. Because in this way, you can grow into a new behavior in which your old beliefs no longer have a place.

5. Be Patient With Yourself

Now it’s time to practice: Practice and be patient with yourself because you have started a very important process that takes time. Our brain is a creature of habit, and a negative belief we have held for years will not disappear overnight.

So you don’t need to feel bad or guilty about falling back on your old beliefs. That’s part of the problem, too: because as soon as we get in touch with the outside, resonance comes back, too, challenging us in our thought patterns - and perhaps tripping us up.

In such moments, be kind to yourself and gently make yourself aware that you are doing something you can be proud of. Think of the process as an adventure that helps you discover the authentic you.

See you next week.

Cheers,

Christian
